In the Fall of 2013, Tong Sensei was approached by Stornoway Productions to feature in an upcoming television show about Shintoism.
The television show is called Oh My God! and it features a look at various religions from the viewpoint of its host and narrator Tevya as he meets and gets to know teenagers who are involved in those religions.
Mr. Tong was interviewed about Shintoism and its relationship to Japanese martial arts, in particular to Japanese swordsmanship.
Mr. Tong is featured on their page about the experts they interviewed in the making of their shows. Please click on the image below to go directly to the page:
A big thank you from all of us here at Tokumeikan to Oh My God! Producer Dani O’Flynn and her great staff for all their hard work and patience. It was easy to see how passionate they were about their work.
Below are some beautiful shots that highlight the show:
Finally, here is what Producer Dani O’Flynn had to say about us:
“Working with Douglas was a great experience. He was more than helpful while I embarked on understanding the essence of Shintoism. Douglas and Tokumeikan embody the true mastery of Japanese Swordsmanship. Not only did he help in the research, by pointing me in the right direction to tell the story of the Japanese culture and Shintoism; the perfection of his art transcended the fundamental principles of Shintoism so we could ‘show’ them to our youth audience. They were ingrained flawlessly into his practice. Thank you again Douglas for all of your time and dedication! We would be delighted to work with you again.”
